Quinlan Animal Clinic recommends a series of vaccinations given in 3-week intervals to fully protect your puppy. The first vaccination, given at about 6 weeks of age, is called DHPP and covers the first four items listed below. The second and following vaccinations include protection against Leptospirosis, which is a disease spread by wildlife. Vaccinations will continue until the puppy has reached 16 weeks of age. Once a puppy has reached 12 weeks of age, he or she will get a rabies vaccination as well. The Bordetella vaccine protects against kennel cough and is not part of the standard vaccination routine. If your dog will be boarding or staying at groomers it is recommended.
Adult dogs need vaccinations as well. It is the policy of Quinlan Animal Clinic that if we have no records or history of vaccinations on a dog we will vaccinate with a combined vaccine that includes distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza and leptospirosis as well as a vaccination for rabies. The combination vaccination will require a booster in three to four weeks. If we have a history and/or records a booster vaccination is not required. Our rabies vaccine is good for three years if it is at least the second one your dog has had.
